In recent years, the United States has faced an alarming and deadly threat in the form of a giant killer wasp, aptly nicknamed the „murder hornet.“
This invasive and highly destructive insect, considered the largest and most dangerous of its kind in the world, appeared in the country in 2019 and has continued to sow fear and chaos. The last sighting of this threatening creature took place in Washington State in 2021. The discovery sent shockwaves through the region, as this „murder hornet“ demonstrated aggression by attacking anything in its path. Measuring 4.4 centimeters long, this insect was detected on August 11, just 3.2 kilometers from where it was initially identified.
The danger is even greater because the venom from a single sting can kill a human being. These „murder hornets“ inject a significant amount of venom into their prey. Although it is rare for a single sting to result in the death of a human, the risk remains alarming.
In response to this alarming development, the WSDA is taking measures to combat this threat.
Live traps are being set up in the region, and entomologists plan to tag the captured wasps in order to return them to their nest. The proximity of this sighting to the border between the United States and Canada has also prompted authorities in the area to install additional traps to prevent the spread of these deadly insects.
