The Prince of Wales, revealed in “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy,” an HBO documentary, how he kept his mother’s memory alive. William shared that he would talk about her with his children at bedtime.

Even decades later, the death of the kind and generous Diana remains as tragic as the day it happened. Her passing was a great loss to her loved ones and to the world.

To this day, every August, the month of the anniversary of her death, tributes from people around the world celebrate her life and legacy. The day Diana lost her life, sadly, she was far from her children.

The shocking death of the people’s princess

Diana died on August 30, 1997 in Paris while she was with her boyfriend Emad “Dodi” Fayed. A tragic car accident took their lives, and the news of her passing shocked the world.

The princess has been missed to this day. She may be gone, but many still remember her kind heart and the amazing things she did in the world. This led to her being known as the “People’s Princess.”

The term caught on after Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, used it after her death. He recalled her love for people, how she showed it to everyone and her willingness to lend a helping hand.

Young Princes William and Harry were robbed of an incredible mother who loved them deeply. At such a tender age, death took away what meant the most to them.

Harry and William didn’t start coming clean about how devastating it was to lose their mom until years later. The Duke of Sussex shared how he felt about not coming clean sooner, saying:

“I really regret never talking about it. For the first 28 years of my life, I never talked about it.”

Experiencing this regret made him passionate about raising awareness around mental health. He founded Heads Together with William and his wife, Princess Kate. Many mental health organizations and charities have become part of the organization, helping to combat the stigma around psychological problems and depression.

Harry also discussed his anger over his mother’s death in the Apple TV+ documentary “The Me You Can’t See.” He said he believed there was no justice for Diana’s passing.

According to William, being at the funeral was the hardest thing he ever did in his life. He revealed how he felt the presence of his late mother that fateful day. He also assured that he loved Diana very much for her loving actions.

An amazing, kind-hearted mother

The media captured many charming interactions between Diana and her children, and her love for them was evident. Despite her busy schedule, the princess made sure to spend plenty of time with them.

There were numerous endearing moments of her, William and Harry during various outings. In an interview with her ex-husband and father of her children, now King Charles III, Diana expressed how much her boys meant to her by:stating.

“I live for my sons. I would be lost without them.”

According to reports, Diana was so attached to her children that she often broke protocol to be near them. The doting mother did most things for William and Harry as a mother, taking them to school herself and even hugging her boys in public.

William makes sure his children don’t forget their late grandmother

William shared how he always talks about his late mother to his three children. Princes George, Charlotte and Louis. Speaking about his mother in the HBO documentary ahead of the 20th anniversary of her death, he recounted:

“Regularly, when I put George or Charlotte to bed, I talk about her and try to remind them that there are two grandmothers.”

In the documentary, he revealed that he had placed numerous photos of his mother around the house. Diana’s grandchildren would see how beautiful she was and hear about her kindness, and would also pay tribute to her on special days.
