The 6-year-old feline went missing on June 26 when he was in front of his owner Julie Appleton’s house in Swaitling, a suburb of Southampton (south of England).

The 49-year-old mother was not immediately worried. She thought that Sam was walking around the neighborhood, but by 9 pm he had not returned home. His mistress went looking for him.
Despite posters and messages on social networks, the cat was never found. A few days later, the woman contacted her on Facebook and said that Sam had followed her and that she thought he was wandering. She then welcomed him into her home before taking him back outside. Julie Appleton approached the man to make sure he was no longer hers and then resumed her search.
Only a month later, Sam’s owner was able to find out the truth, and most importantly, to see her pet again and return him home. Just as she began to lose hope, she received an unexpected phone call from a veterinary clinic located in Chandlers Ford, a few miles away.
His interlocutor announced to him that he had just let Sam in, before explaining to him what had happened to him. The lady who called her, claiming the cat was stalking her, actually sold her to another family living in Chandlers Ford.
The buyer, a 33-year-old father named Chris Gibbs, says he is still angry after the man fooled him. He stumbled upon an ad placed by her that offered to sell Sam (introduced as Marmalade by the saleswoman) for £20.
The Gibbs recently lost their cat and wanted to welcome another one. Their 3-year-old daughter took the animal’s disappearance very hard. Sam’s departure was a new grief for her.
However, Chris Gibbs says he is «very happy for Julie and her family because they found Sam. It’s nice to see him back in your house.»
